AO returns to television with self-shot advert

Online electricals retailer, AO, is returning to television advertising for the first time in almost 2 years.

The Bolton-based firm will pay tribute to key workers and has been created entirely by its in-house production team, in less than 2 weeks. The 30 second advert will predominantly feature footage shot by its employees at home.

Airing for the first time tonight, it will be supported by a social media campaign.

“With stores still closed and people relying on their electricals more than ever for boxset bingeing, calming cuppas and feasts from the fridge, customers need to know where they can get what they need, when they need it from a name they can trust”, said John Roberts, AO’s Founder and Chief Executive.

“We’ve made huge changes behind the scenes to make sure we’re operating safely and as the UK’s largest online electricals retailer, we’ve worked with manufacturers to make sure there’s plenty available for customers.”

The campaign will also feature daily rewards to celebrate the people “keeping the nation powering on, from NHS workers to local volunteers to delivery drivers.”

This will see people nominated their heroes on its social media channels.

“At AO.com, we’re all about making the ordinary extraordinary and now we want to celebrate how our customers are doing the same during this time of national crisis by crowning them an AO Hero,” continued Roberts.

AO employs 90 people in full-service creative and multimedia teams based in Bolton and Manchester, including copywriters, designers and film production. 11 of its team worked on this latest AO campaign.
