mda to create 90 new jobs with Wigan warehouse

Promotional merchandise company mda is opening a new logistics facility in Wigan that will create 90 new permanent jobs within three years.

The firm, which designs and distributes marketing materials for brands across Europe, will be based at the M6 Epic 110+ site on the South Lancs Industrial Estate in Ashton-in-Makerfield. Up to 150 temporary posts will also be created during peak times.

The site represents is a joint venture between financial services giant Legal & General and property developer db symmetry and will be mda’s fifth UK warehouse. Planning permission has been secured for an additional 70,000 sq ft. Work is underway on fitting out the building which is forecast to be operational in early 2018.

Cllr David Molyneux, the deputy leader of Wigan Council, said: “We are delighted that a business of the calibre of mda has chosen Wigan borough as the location for their new logistics centre. This is a business that has a proven track-record of success and we are confident that their move into Ashton-in-Makerfield will be a fruitful and successful one for the company.”

The company was established in 1987 in Blackpool and forms part of FTSE 100 point-of-sale marketing materials multinational Bunzl plc. It has two bases in Blackburn, including the 250,000 sq ft former Walker Steel building.
