We’re looking for an ambitious and motivated person with a strong technical background to lead our award-winning and growing web development team (circa 15 developers) in an exciting agency environment.

The role of Head of Web Development holds a significant level of responsibility to the business in regards to the performance and delivery of work by the Web Development team.

We have a strong focus on collaboration as a business and therefore this role requires working with all areas of business to ensure the optimal delivery of projects, with a core collaboration with the Design/Creative, Planning and Client Services teams as well as technical teams such as Analytics, Conversion Rate Optimisation and SEO.

Key Responsibilities:

– Leadership of the Web Development team
– Identifying training & upskilling requirements of the team
– Pro-actively reporting to the Technical Director on all team performance
– Ensuring the team is delivering work on time and on (or exceeding) specification
– Identifying issues and solutions
– Being a catalyst for the team to work smarter (automation, new processes, etc.)
– Ensuring projects are thoroughly scoped out with the team and understood
– Technology leadership within the team as well as development technology leadership within the business
– Financial responsibility for web development including sales targets, revenue targets, budgeting and planning
– Supporting the sales process, for example: attending events, quoting, RFP responses, pitches, demos, follow-up meetings, handovers
– Management and delivery of Research and Development, where applicable
– Recruitment within the Web Development team
– Liaising directly with clients to help build strong relationships, grow clients, resolve issues and create added value
– Ensuring team members are supported effectively from induction, through to training and personal development and welfare
– Ensuring that the success of the department & team is effectively promoted and recognised
– Awareness and clear knowledge of HR, legal and commercial requirements of the business and our clients
– Ensuring we produce high quality solutions that comply to the ‘umbrella principal’ (DRY, YAGNI, KISS)
– Any action required by the business to meet our team and wider business goals
