Front End Developer

Introduction

To support our sustained growth we are searching for an experienced Front End Developer to join our established team on either a permanent or contract basis.

Skills and competencies

Essential

Competent and experienced in using HTML, CSS and Javascript to develop mobile first, responsive web sites and applications
Experienced in the use of CSS preprocessors such as Sass
Have worked with backend technologies to output templated HTML with tools such as Twig
Good knowledge of using Javascript to manipulate the DOM and make AJAX requests
Use of version control systems, such as Git
Familiar with front end build tools such as Grunt and Gulp
Able to use progressive enhancement to ensure a good experience across all browsers and devices
Strong debugging skills, including across devices and browsers

Preferred

Experience of front end performance best practices and optimisation techniques
Experienced working in an agile environment
Experience of building front ends that meet accessibility best practices and standards such as WCAG
Knowledge of advanced front end technologies such as the manipulation of canvas elements and use of device capabilities using HTML5 APIs
Experience using Javascript frameworks such as React,Angular, Backbone, or Vue.js
Experience working in unix based environments, using the command line and Virtual Machines for local development

Key Responsibilities

Producing solutions to defined requirements, with direction from the Technical Lead
Ensuring you deliver services in line with our processes
Ensuring the technical quality and consistency of your development work in the following key areas:

Security
Maintainability
Performance
Guiding and mentoring less experienced developers

Education and experience
3+ years experience in a similar role within a commercial environment.
