Contract Type:

If you are aware of David McCandless and admire his work then please read on? If you don’t or aren’t sure what this job title represents, then you are probably barking up the wrong tree.

This is a role for a creative marketing agency in an exciting time of their existence. Due to continued growth and as a result the opening of their 2nd office in Leeds (where this role is based), they are now looking for an inspiring, passionate designer, but one with a difference.

Effectively this is a requirement for a graphic artist of information / data. Working closely with a creative director and data journalist in creating hugely engaging heat maps to precise charts with the use of graphics, typography and graphical illustration.

Somebody who can understand analytical / factorial information taken from spread sheets and simplistic graphs, translating this into head turning graphical compositions that immediately convey the message. The use of which will be used to create strategic digital PR story pieces, reaching audiences of millions on behalf of their impressive portfolio of clients.

Your current role may be within the publication or digital sector, you may even have some additional skills in animation or motion graphics, but ultimately you must have evidence of at least some data visualisation within your portfolio.

You will understand how to translate a brief, what is the objective and how this can be successfully delivered using your expert eye for design and detail to create beautifully crafted factual assets. If you think that showing percentages by the size of a balloon, then you are only on the bottom rung when you need to be on the top. Google David McCandless to understand what you need to be getting close to.

You will be a master in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, with any additional working knowledge of D3.js or other JavaScript libraries a distinct advantage.

Personality wise you will be a team player. Able to project manage your work and communicate effectively at all levels. Already taking a passionate interest in related design work outside work, just because you cant put it down.

If you consider data visualisation as a functional art form, can deliver at this higher level and want to be part of a truly passionate agency in the prime of their existence, then please don’t hesitate to apply with your CV and supporting pdf portfolio (or url portfolio link). Generous salary package, flexible working hours and easily accessible location will be on offer to the successful candidate. As will the chance to take a more responsible future role with the expected expansion of the agency.
