Transport for Greater Manchester

Apply for this job

Contract Type:

Are you passionate about sustainable travel and enthusiastic about influencing others to share your passion? Are you experienced in successfully engaging a wide range of people? Transport for Greater Manchester’s Active Travel and Travel Choices Teams are both seeking a self-motivated, organised and creative individual to work as a close partner to the delivery team, to help deliver its wide-ranging communications and engagement programme.

TfGM oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to shape transport strategy. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.

Our Active Travel programme covers both cycling and walking, with delivery ranging from infrastructure projects such as Cycleways and parking, through to engagement activities such as the Greater Manchester Walking Festival and our cycling events programme. We offer practical measures like cycle training, and run campaigns with a core aim to get more people to travel actively.

Our Travel Choices programme spans businesses, commuters, jobseekers and apprentices, and the education sector, and aims to encourage people to take up cycling, walking and public transport as an alternative to the private car.

You will have a proven ability to devise and manage integrated communications, acting as a conduit to other communications and marketing professionals within TfGM, and working with external agencies, partners and stakeholders, to deliver far-reaching communications for our exciting programme.

You will have strong creative skills, including copywriting and editing, and be an excellent project manager. You will also be a strong advocate for Active Travel/Travel Choices within TfGM and to a wider audience of stakeholders and partners.

In return, as well as a competitive salary, we offer a fantastic range of benefits, including:
– free home to work travel by train or Metrolink within the Greater Manchester boundary;
– free bus travel across Greater Manchester;
– 27 days annual leave;
– access to the local government pension scheme

This is a Fixed Term contract to 31 March 2018.

If you believe you can contribute to our continued success we would really like to hear from you!
