Aberfield Communications has been appointed by St Congar to work on the project for the proposed redevelopment of the Thorp Arch Estate near Wetherby.

The Leeds agency will handle local engagement and marketing communication for the proposed Rudgate Village scheme at Thorp Arch.

It will deliver a new village with up to 1,000 homes, plus a school, retail and community facilities on the site of the former Royal Ordnance factory and current Thorp Arch Retail Park.

Initially Aberfield will be raising awareness and understanding of the plans and delivering community engagement events ahead of a new planning application, which is expected in the summer.

The Thorp Arch Estate is owned by Rockspring Hanover Property Unit Trust and the new plans are being brought forward on their behalf by St Congar, alongside renowned masterplanning architects DLA Architects Practice and leading planning consultancy the Pegasus Group.

Tony Blackburn, director of St Congar, said: “We are developing a proposal for a high-quality, sustainable and sympathetic new community and believe Aberfield’s experience, reputation and links in the city make them the perfect partner.”

Aberfield will continue to work with Rockspring on the 6 Queen Street development in Leeds City Centre, which will be completing and launching later in 2016.
