A new campaign aims to warn motorists of the dangers of buying a used vehicle without a history check.

The campaign, from Leeds-based company HPI, warns that one in four of the used cars it checks is still on finance, leaving buyers exposed to repossession of the vehicle.

The ad was created by Dazzle Ship, with media planning handled by Four Chairs, and will run on a mix digital channels. It will be supported by social media and PR.

The campaign aims to educate motorists that one simple check can save a lot of hassle, covering everything from finance, to mileage and insurance write-offs.

Fernando Garcia, consumer director at HPI, said: “Our new campaign aims to drive it home to motorists that a vehicle history check is an essential part of buying any used car. Research tells us that many consumers are still unaware that if they buy a car on finance it can be repossessed, meaning they lose the vehicle and the money paid.”

Established in 1938, HPI is the primary source of vehicle information for the UK motor industry and motoring consumer.
