Adidas reveals new Stan Smith launch after Manchester warm up

adidasThe reason for all those green and white murals in Manchester’s northern quarter is explained today – an Adidas marketing campaign.

The famous Stan Smith trainer, sported by music figures for decades including John Lennon, is making a return to shops across the globe today.

And the 1970s US tennis star who lent his name to the shoe is also backing its relaunch with explains the appearences of his face on the streets as spotted and snapped by the eagle-eyed Northern Quarter blog at the weekend.

The campaign has also launched across social media with fans of the shoe being asked to tweet an image of themselves using the hashtag #stansmith for the chance to win a personalised pair of trainers.

In his heyday, Smith won tournaments including Wimbledon and the US Open. His endorsement of Adidas’s tennis shoe featured his face and signature being printed on the tongues of every pair of Stan Smiths, although when the picture was taken, he had shaved off his trademark moustache.
