Private equity veteran Connell, who has worked for 3i, Invesco Asset Management and Montagu Private Equity, was introduced to York Mailing by the Business Growth Fund’s Talent Network of experienced business figures.

In July, York Mailing secured a £10m investment from the BGF and subsequently acquired The Lettershop Group to create a business with 500 staff across three sites.

Donovan founded her own marketing agency, The JDA Group, in 1982 which she sold to her management in 2000.

She currently holds a number of public positions, among them chair of the Eden Project and director of the British Wool Marketing Board.

Chris Ingram, chief executive officer of York Mailing, said: “On behalf of York Mailing, I am pleased to welcome Richard and Judith to our board. Their appointments represent a real step forward for our business.

“In Richard we have an experienced FTSE 250 chairman who will bring invaluable business understanding and help direct the group’s strategic thinking.

“Judith, with her unparalleled direct marketing experience, will also be able to help us as we develop our full service offering to the group’s customers.”

The company has no plans to make any further board appointments.
