Following a competitive pitch, Darwen-based Crown Paints has appointed PHD as its UK and Ireland media planning and buying agency.

The account will be run from PHD’s Manchester office which employs 15 staff.

PHD will start handling the account later this month.

Figures for the value of the contract have not been disclosed but the latest figures supplied by industry body Nielsen show media expenditure of circa £1.5m.

Crown would also not disclose who the other agencies were but the 'incumbent' media agency was MEC's Manchester operation.

Crown's principal media support covers their consumer and trade brands Crown, Sandtex and Sadolin  in the UK and Ireland.

Crown Paints, is currently owned by the Danish paint manufacturer Hempel.

Liz Hickson, marketing director of Crown Paints said “We’re looking forward to an effective partnership that will help us to drive continued growth within the sector.”

Other creative services provided to Crown by BJL are unaffected by the appointment.

Other PHD clients in Manchester include AG Barr, Manchester City Football Club, New Balance, Bentley, CrossCountry and Jewson.
