ITV is launching a new programme app, to support its horse racing coverage.

Its release coincides with the coverage of Ascot this Saturday and will feature video clips from all the races, plus features, news, race cards and results.

The app will also include a predictor competition called ITV7. Both features are sponsored by William Hill.

The “ITV Seven” dates back to the 1970s, when the channel used to show 7 horse races each week. Viewers would try and correctly predict the winning horses in all of the races.

“Nostalgic racing fans like me will take pleasure in welcoming back an old favourite and I’m so excited that newcomers can enjoy the thrill of choosing their horses each week,” said ITV Racing presenter Ed Chamberlin.

“It was actually the ITV7 that got me into racing from a young age. I’ve got so many fond memories of my grandfather making his picks on a Saturday morning and I’m delighted that people will have the chance to do that again with ITV Racing.”

The app has been created by Monterosa, which also did the I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out of Here! app.

“We’re delighted to be the new sponsors of ITV7 and the new racing app,” added William Hill chief customer officer Cem Miralay.

“ITV7 is sure to evoke fond memories in nostalgic racing fans – and we’re sure it will become a modern-day classic in its new digital format.”
