Manchester-based Apadmi Group has launched its own private mobile network so that it can develop and test new services and apps using Global Systems for Mobile (GSM).

The network will be used across the Apadmi Group and has been set up by its Panaram division which deals with creating converged communications platforms.

The growth in adoption of private GSM networks is being driven by the lowering costs of implementation and equipment, as well as a growing recognition of the opportunities that a private network brings for the integration of multiple solutions, applications and devices onto one system.

Apadmi Group’s Panaram business spokesman Matt Hunt explained that the company was working on a number of large projects that run on private GSM networks.

“Private mobile networks open up wider opportunities for innovation because you have guaranteed availability and speed of delivery. For example, we have developed some really interesting solutions using SMS as a comms carrier because you aren’t limited by the uncertainties of network congestion and poor coverage.”

“One of our customers is a hospital that is replacing legacy paging systems with apps that run on the hospital’s private mobile network, so we need to be able to check that our solutions are both secure and robust. Having full test facilities will let us do this in a safe environment and will also give us the scope to develop even more innovative technology across our group businesses.”

The private GSM network will be used across the Apadmi group of companies which includes Apadmi, RealityMine and Panaram.
