The five-star Lowry Hotel has appointed Chinese digital agency TongDigital to raise its international profile.

The Lowry Hotel has experienced a rise in Chinese guests since it hosted President Xi Jinping during his visit to the UK last October.

A new direct flight from Manchester to Beijing was also launched this month.

TongDigital is a leading digital marketing agency that specialises in helping British brands engage with Chinese consumers through digital channels,.

A WeChat database has been designed for the hotel, operating as both a website and social media platform.

It will allow Chinese consumers to learn more about the hotel and interact with it.

Adrian Ellis, General Manager at The Lowry Hotel commented: “The hotel has always been extremely popular with international guests, but we have seen a large influx in Chinese visitors in the last couple of months.

“We are the first Manchester hotel to have a WeChat account and creating this platform with Tong Digital will bring lots of new opportunities. We’re very excited to strengthen our link with China.”

TongDigital co-founder Adam Knight added: “With over 700 million users and 90% penetration rate in key cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, WeChat is China’s most popular social network.

“Tong constructed an engaging microsite hosted within WeChat, where guests can access hotel information and interact with hotel staff directly.

“The Lowry’s embrace of this technology puts it very firmly at the forefront of Chinese marketing in the UK.”
