Manchester-based Equator Design and Leeds agency Search Laboratory both made the Sunday Times Heathrow SME Export Track 100 this weekend, which ranks Britain’s private small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) with the fastest-growing international sales.

Equator, a brand and packaging design agency, boosted international sales by 61% over the past 24 months, generating an overseas income of just under £9m in 2015, placing them 52nd in the table.

Search Laboratory also increased sales by 61%, with international income just over £2m, placing them 54th.

Equator Design has a global presence with offices in Chicago, Dublin, Nottingham, Sydney and Shenzhen, China. It works with Volvo, Disney and US supermarket chains Smart & Final and Roundy’s.

Mark Cook, global sales director, said: “The inclusion is testament to our business model and the way we work which is something quite unique, especially in the US where retailers are beginning to embrace ‘own label’ manufacturing.

“Our under one roof approach means we can turn around projects quickly, without compromising on exceptional design. It also keeps costs low as we aim to deliver a ‘right first time’ solution. This approach is proving to be an attractive option for our clients who want projects completed to a high level, within a specified time frame whilst reducing spend.”

Search Laboratory, founded by Ian Harris, has enjoyed success helping companies tap into new markets by improving rankings on the likes of China’s Baidu or Russia’s Yandex. It has now run campaigns in more than 18 countries and has a New York office.
