Garden visitors get augmented reality experience
Skipton-based PEEL Interactive has been commissioned by The Duchess of Northumberland to develop the visitor experience for The Alnwick Garden, using augmented reality (AR).
The digital services company is using the technology to add an extra dimension to the visitor experiences and bring to life some of the attractions’ many interesting characters and features as well as being able to show visitors how the garden changes throughout the different seasons.
Jessica Akrigg explained what the company does: “We’ve spent many years developing our AR technology to challenge the market sector and we’re now leading the way in providing interactive digital storytelling for some of the world’s best known tourism destinations.
“At the heart of the technology is selling experiences. AR gives visitors an extra dimension to their real life experience but also gives visitor destinations an added revenue stream whilst helping to attract the young audiences that live in this digital era.”
The company is also being used in a new initiative at Colchester Castle Museum to give visitors the ability to bring a vast collection of Roman and Norman architectural and sculptural remains to life by using AR to restore colours and lost features, as well as adding an extra layer of digital interpretation to collections.
