Greater Manchester Police is claiming another digital first, as the only UK police force to have an Android mobile phone app.
This follows an iPhone App which was launched in January and has now been downloaded by more than 11,000 people.
The Android version has the same features, using location technology to deliver information, such as the nearest police station or crimes in the area. There are also details about who the neighbourhood policing team is, community meetings and help with wanted or missing people.
“GMP prides itself on being at the forefront of social media and we are always looking at new ways that we can use it to communicate with our communities,” explained Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins.
“Our app for iPhones was the first of its kind and received lots of positive feedback from users, with many people asking for an Android version. We listened to them and I’m really excited about today’s launch which will mean even more people will be able to access GMP on the go.
GMP said that the App has been developed by an in-house team “at no additional cost.”
