Smiley2Animation and interactive developer Studio Liddell, has licensed Smiley Company’s iconic imagery to create a unique puzzle game for Apple mobile and tablet devices.

The Manchester and London company, best known for its animation production on TV series such as ‘Roary the Racing Car’ and ‘Cloudbabies’ , is increasingly its investment in the digital space, with the creation of a dedicated interactive team producing apps and games for a number of licensed and original IP’s.

SmileyWorld is the Studio’s latest release and is targeting gamers of any age looking for a ‘new type of puzzle challenge’.

The game is now available for iPhone 4, 4S and 5, iPod Touch generation 3 and 4 and iPad 2 and newer devices and the Studio intends to launch Android, Mac and PC versions of the game by the Spring.

Utilising a range of the iconic Smiley faces, Studio Liddell has devised a  puzzle game featuring three modes of play: ‘SmileyWorld’, ‘Challenge’ and ‘Survival’.

Peter Caddock, head of new technologies at Studio Liddell said: “Gameplay has been designed to be intuitive and challenging, yet never frustrating.

“We want to promote short, rewarding challenges that are perfect for quick gaming – it’s ideal for the daily commute, the pub, home, or to fill a spare minute or two.  With the new single screen, multiplayer feature you can now enjoy challenging a friend sat next to you.”

The SmileyWorld app is priced at 69p.

A quick root around the reviews at the Apple Store suggests that the Studio has developed a winner, with users suggesting the app is “addictive”, “cool” and a “Fantastically frustrating puzzler “.
