BBC Breakfast business presenter, Steph McGovern, is to front a new business format for CBBC.

Pocket Money Pitch is a 10-part series to encourage young entrepreneurs and teach them about business.

It will be made by CBBC Productions at MediaCityUK, which is currently on a nationwide search to find the young business leaders of the future, aged between 8-14.

Each show will feature 6 young entrepreneurs who will go head-to-head to pitch for a year’s worth of pocket money to invest in their idea. They will meet and work with mentors to form their “Pocket Money Plans” with the final show of the series revealing what happened next.

“Some of our best-known entrepreneurs started their business ventures when they were kids. Young people have so many great ideas so I can’t wait to hear what children from around the country have come up with. Pocket Money Pitch will encourage them to believe in themselves and ‘have a go’,” explained McGovern.

“Plus this new show is going to give these young people the chance to meet some very brilliant entrepreneurs and pick up skills that will help them no matter what they choose to do in the future.”

The series was commissioned by controller of CBBC, Cheryl Taylor.
