Tributes have been paid to ‘Voice of Hull KR’ Chris Park, who has died after a battle with cancer.
The radio commentator had covered the rugby league club’s games for years, mainly with BBC Radio Humberside.
The station’s sports output editor, Matt Dean, said Park would be greatly missed.
He said: “He was a lovely guy, a very dedicated journalist and you couldn’t meet a nicer person.
“People are saying lots of nice things about him. Every tribute I’ve read and every feeling people have expressed has been very sincere.
“He’s a really big loss to us and we’re still trying to get our heads around it.”
Radio Humberside will be broadcasting a tribute to Park as part of its Sportstalk programme at 6pm tonight.
Radio Humberside presenter Mike White added: “RIP Chris Park – THE voice of Hull Kingston Rovers.
“Off-air… a humble, modest, quietly spoken, kind and gentle man. Never a bad word to say about anyone and only ever wanting to please and know he’d done a good enough job.
“On-air… Chris was the ultimate professional, a master of the craft of commentary, a wordsmith no less who instilled a genuine passion and raw emotion into every game he called whether it was a cup final, a Hull derby or a wet and miserable Sunday afternoon pre-season game in Workington.”
Other tributes on Twitter included:
