Ant and Dec to appear on Desert Island Discs

TV presenters Ant and Dec are set to become the first duo to appear on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs for over 25 years.

The Newcastle-born pair – real names Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – will be Kirsty Young’s guests in the show’s last episode of 2013, on December 29.

They will each choose two tracks and four together and will be allowed a luxury item and a book each.

Currently hosting the new series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, Ant and Dec have also hosted Britain’s Got Talent and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Other duos to have appeared on the show include Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise and Spitting Image creators Fluck and Law, who were the last to be cast away as a pair in 1987.

Call the Midwife star Miranda Hart will also appear on the show, on December 22.

Other festive shows on the station include a dramatisation of the stories of Beatrix Potter and a version of National Velvet starring Alison Steadman and John Sessions. There will also be a Christmas edition of Just a Minute starring Pam Ayres, Stephen Mangan, Gyles Brandreth and Paul Merton.

Radio 4 controller Gwyneth Williams said: “While the festive season invites us to indulge in rich food and drink, I know that Radio 4 listeners will also welcome the chance to indulge their minds. So I hope they will join Radio 4 for a delicious array of programmes over the Christmas period.”
