The Tube returns as part of Channel 4’s 80s Night
Channel 4 will pay tribute to legendary Newcastle entertainment series, The Tube, as part of an 80s night later this month.
It will hear from some of the bands, presenters, comedians and fans who took part in the iconic show and Peaches Geldof will explore the vast Tube archive collected by her mother, Paula Yates.
The Tube was originally produced by Tyne Tees Television for Channel 4. It made its debut in 1982 with The Jam and ended 5 years later with Duran Duran.
Presented by Yates alongside Jools Holland, it was filmed in Studio 5 at Tyne Tees’ former City Road studios. It would also make the pub next door famous, with the Egypt Cottage nicknamed Studio 6.
Channel 4 revived The Tube in radio form in 2006 as part of its bid to launch a national radio station. It was recorded in front of a live studio audience in Manchester.
The 80s night will air on Friday 20th September from 8pm. It will also include Countdown and Fifteen to One specials.
