Independent production company Red Productions, has finally confirmed it is to move its HQ from Granada’s former base at Quay St to a 4800sq ft facility within dock10’s new production hub at MediaCity. As part of the move, dock10 will also become Red’s preferred post-production supplier.
News of the move to Salford has long been expected as the award-winning indie became one of the last occupants of the Quay St building.
Red was ranked at 24 in trade publication Broadcast’s annual listing of the UK’s leading indies earlier this year.
In common with most indies, Red maintains a small core staff or just over a dozen but at any one time, the number of people employed on various Red commissions can rise to over 100.
Dock10’s new hub is aimed at the independent production market and the company will be delighted it has secured Manchester’s best-known indie.
Red has forged its reputation primarily on drama but in March this year it revealed its intention to diversify into comedy and was seeking more international projects and collaboration.
The company also recently announced that it had been commissioned by ITV to deliver a fourth series of Scott and Bailey and that the BBC had also commissioned a new six part drama.

Shindler named the company after her beloved MUFC but unfortunately she won’t be attending the nail biter against Liverpool at Old Trafford this evening as she will be delivering the annual Anthony H Wilson Memorial Lecture at the nearby Lowry…close enough however to hear the fans roar…or not.
