Henry Winkler will star in a CBBC series based on his own best-selling book, Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever.

The 13×30 minute series has been part-funded through Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund.

It’s about 12-year-old Henry “Hank” Zipzer and his unique perspective on the world. Having dyslexia, when problems arise he deals them in a way no-one else would.

“The stories are inspired by the true life experiences of Henry Winkler and how he felt growing up with dyslexia. At CBBC, we try to reflect the lives of children back at them and Hank Zipzer shows that achievement comes in all shapes and sizes – and it’s set to be very funny too!” said executive producer for CBBC, Sue Nott.

The comedy drama comes from Canadian giant DHX Media, which owns Ragdoll Worldwide (Teletubbies, In the Night Garden) and Walker Productions, it will be produced by Kindle Entertainment.

Anne Brogan will executive produce for Kindle Entertainment, Helen McAleer for Walker Productions, Steven DeNure is executive producer for DHX Media and Hugo Heppell for Screen Yorkshire

The series will film this Autumn/Winter for TX in 2014.
