The latest offering in CBBC’s ‘Deadly’ series will be broadcast in October when explorer and naturalist Steve Blackshall – and his crew – embark on an attempt to circumnavigate the planet.

Deadly Pole To Pole (30×30 minutes) will see the team led by Blackshall visiting all the seven continents as they endeavour to introduce to the CBBC audience the varied environments and wildlife they encounter along the way.

Highlights of the journey that viewers are promised include ice climbing in the high Arctic in search of the ‘mighty polar bear’, meeting flesh-eating cockroaches in the Caribbean, grey wolves in Yellowstone Park and watching Blackshall free diving with a great white shark off the coast of Mexico without the safety of a cage or other sensible protection…

Other episodes will see the team descend into the heart of an Alaskan glacier and experience the contrast of hurricane-speed winds and the heat of the volcanic lava flows of Hawaii.

Previous series of the Deadly franchise have included Deadly 60, Deadly 360 and Deadly Mission Madagascar.

Cheryl Taylor, controller of CBBC in Salford Quays, said: “Deadly Pole To Pole is our most enthralling Deadly adventure yet and finds the irrepressible Steve Blackshall traversing the globe to unearth ever more amazing phenomena in the natural world. Steve’s passion and knowledge, coupled with the expertise of the BBC’s Natural History Unit, is an irresistible and inspiring combination.”

Deadly Pole To Pole is exec-produced by Jonny Keeling and Scott Alexander is the series producer.
