True North’s purple patch continues with the news that BBC One has commissioned a second series of ‘Animal Frontline’ from the Leeds-based indie.
Filming for the 10 x 30’ series commences immediately and will follow the RSPCA’s frontline inspectors as they deal with over the one million calls that are handled by the charity’s call centre every year.
Transmission is expected in spring 2014.
The series was commissioned by BBC controller of daytime, Damian Kavanagh, with Carla-Maria Lawson as the executive producer for the BBC. Andrew Sheldon is the executive producer for True North.
IGEL will handle international distribution of the new series.
Sheldon, creative director at True North said: “We’re delighted to be starting work on a second series.
“Animal welfare is something that’s tremendously important to millions of people in the UK, and this series goes to the heart of that. It’s also a chance to further develop our relationship with BBC One Daytime, which has been a cornerstone of True North’s success.”
True North is one of the UK’s leading indies andby turnover is ranked the third largest indie in the UK outside London.
Just ahead of the company is the All3Media-owned Lime based in Liverpool and the independently-owned indie Red run out of Manchester.
True North’s last reported turnover was £7m. The company said that it currently has over 130 people working across various productions.
In the past year, new commissions have been secured from the BBC, CBBC, Channel 4, Five, MTV, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, UKTV, CCTV9 (China) and the Crime & Investigation Channel.
