MediaCityUK owner Peel Media has reported a dramatic rise in revenues as the impact of the BBC’s move to Salford begins to kick in.

The latest filed accounts reveal that revenues grew by almost 100%, from £9m to £17.1m in the year to March 31.

The accounts cover the period when most of the BBC’s move to the 36-acre site actually took place, including departments such as CBBC, Sport, 5 Live and the North West news.

A further 100,000 sq ft is let to the University of Salford, while ITV has begun to take up residency in the Orange Tower on the MediaCityUK piazza. Around 160 people will move in as part of the Business Service Centre and HR departments, with others including CITV, Jeremy Kyle, Drama, Post Production and Regional News following later this year.

Other tenants moving in during the 2011-12 period included Urban Vision and outside broadcast specialist Satellite Information Services, while 63,000 sq ft of retail space was let.
