One of Manchester’s most popular media Meet Up groups is to start sessions in Liverpool.

The Art of Smartphone Filmmaking has been running in Manchester for more than six months and now has 530 members.

The sessions, which are run by tech entrepreneur Imran Azam, are free and often include food as well.

They teach Meet Up members how to make short films using their smartphones.

The first Liverpool session will take place at Launch 22 on Tuesday February 9th, followed the next day by the usual monthly meeting in Manchester, which will be at Spaceport X.

Producers will act out, film and edit scenes from Shakespeare.

Azam, the founder of thisisreel.co, told Prolific North: “We started the Manchester Meet Up in June last year and the response has been phenomenal.

“Smartphone filmmaking has been a passion of mine for a while, and developments in technology have meant most people have the equipment, in their pockets, to make broadcast-quality pieces.

“The sessions are free. All I ask in return is that people who attend teach the skills they learn to someone else and that they will collaborate with me on a documentary I hope to make for St Ann’s Hospice in Manchester.”

Azam also hopes to start similar Meet Ups in London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Stockholm.
