New series of Alesha's dance show given Mighty Giant rebrand
CBBC show Alesha's Street Dance Stars has been rebranded by Manchester-based motion design studio Mighty Giant.
The company was approached to pitch earlier this year with a brief to give the show a new "shiny and high end" look. The look and titles package also had to reflect the show's street dance edginess.
Shot at MediaCityUK, the dance competition returns for a third series this morning at 9am.
"We proposed an idea that we felt would totally capture the street feel, but also add something extra, something that makes the show feel big. We also didn't want to go down the standard filming a dancer route," said creative director Jonathan Ashworth.
"We knew we had the facilities within the Sharp Project to come up with something different."
Senior designer on the rebrand was Andy Horan, with motion capture work conducted by Mighty Giant's fellow Sharp Project tenant Mocapone.
Ashworth added: "The hardest aspect was to ensure the dance moves would look real. We know the guys at Mocapone well so brought them in to help with this side. We recruited a dancer from Some Like it Hip Hop in London then captured his moves using the mocap (motion capture) technology.
"With this data we were able to design and choreograph a title sequence that is that little bit different."
