Mike Sassi, the current editor of The Sentinel in Stoke has joined the Nottingham Post, also as editor.

Both publications are part of the Local World print group, which has confirmed that the process to replace him at The Sentinel has already begun.

“I’ve hugely enjoyed the absolute privilege of editing The Sentinel for more than seven years. Having such tremendous and talented staff has made it a pleasure to come to work every day. I am relishing the challenge of editing the Nottingham Post. I’m confident I can help it achieve great success,” said Sassi.

He began his career as a junior reporter at the Derby Telegraph in 1988 before moving over to the Exeter Express & Echo and then The South Wales Echo. His first editorial role was at the Lincolnshire Echo in 1999. He left 6 years later to join The Sentinel.

“I am looking forward to an exciting and positive relationship with Mike, as the Nottingham Post capitalises upon its greater paginations, increased story counts and a new approach to print and online news gathering in Nottinghamshire’s communities,” added Steve Hollingsworth, Nottingham publisher.

He takes up the new role on 10th June.
