The Manchester agency, which recently won the PR contract for Arriva Buses in the North West and Wales, will manage media relations, as well as supporting across stakeholder relations and digital strategy.

Willerby employs over 1,000 people at its Kingston upon Hull HQ

Employing more than 1,000 people at its Kingston upon Hull HQ and with an annual turnover of £150m, Willerby celebrated its 70th anniversary last year.

Its marketing director, Kirsten Bolton, said: “The bright young things at Smoking Gun share our ambition to transform how we are engaging with new communications tools, new ways of ‘doing’ PR and content marketing. Their approach to storytelling in a digital age inspired us from the get-go and we’re very much looking forward to working with them.”

Rick Guttridge, Smoking Gun PR’s managing director, added: “The new partnership will see two ‘proud to be Northern’ businesses joining forces and with Willerby’s great heritage and our vast experience in the travel sector, together we are well placed to propel the brand forward. Campaign activity will capitalise on Hull’s City of Culture status and Willerby’s continued market leadership.”

Smoking Gun PR, the MPA PR Agency of the Year, also works with fitness brand Les Mills and software company GoSimple.
