Johnston’s Yorkshire titles see circulation rise

Johnston Press has released a trading update for the last quarter, showing that total revenues were up 0.2%.

This is mainly due to the performance of i, because taking i out of the picture, total revenues fell by 12%.

The publisher said that its large regional dailies, including the Yorkshire Post, Sheffield Star and Yorkshire Evening Post had seen continuing improvement in circulation.

However, the statement added:

“The Board notes that trading conditions for regional newspapers in the UK remain challenging and, while encouraged by improving trends across the Group, the management team continues to take actions to manage its costs tightly.”

Year-on-year, digital advertising revenues (excluding classified) were up 10%. Including classifieds, revenues were up 3%.

Digital audiences were up 11% to 26m, with average page views up 17%.
