Yorkshire Regional Newspapers has launched a voluntary redundancy programme, following a request from staff.

The Johnston Press-owned group publishes weeklies including The Whitby Gazette, Scarborough News and Bridlington Free Press as well as smaller titles including the Beverley Guardian, Driffield Times & Post and the Malton & Pickering Mercury.

“We were approached by staff regarding the possibility of voluntary redundancy across our Yorkshire bases and we have opened up the opportunity for all before any decisions are made,” a spokesperson for Yorkshire Regional Titles told Hold The Front Page.

There have been some major changes at Johnston’s Yorkshire publications recently. Yesterday it announced that the Selby Times and Goole Courier were to be sold. It’s also decided to end the print run of Sheffield Star’s “Green ‘un” and there is still no news on where the Whitby Gazette will be based with its historic offices being put up for sale.
