There will be a bit of badge swap going on at Blue Peter tomorrow as the show honours Apple’s Sir Jonathan Ive with its highest accolade, a gold Blue Peter badge.

Not to be outdone, the senior vice president of industrial design for Apple (and lifelong Blue Peter fan) created a unique solid aluminium version in return.

London-born Sir Jony appears as part of a gadget special to be screened on the CBBC channel at 10am on Saturday. He will be reviewing several product designs sent in by viewers through a series of video messages.

He described getting the golden badge as “absolutely incredible.” Only 1000 gold badges have been presented in the show’s history, to the likes of the Queen, David Beckham, JK Rowling and Damian Hirst.

“Sir Jonathan Ive is an inspiration to children around the world and we were ecstatic to hear his comments and design advice to our viewers who will remember such feedback for a lifetime,” said Ewan Vinnicombe, acting editor of Blue Peter, which is based at MediaCityUK.
