Strategy Director – Manchester

Our client is seeking an experienced and talented strategic planner who will be responsible for leading brilliant communication solutions for key clients within a leading Comms Network. The Strategy Director will play a pivotal role in the Manchester based Strategic Planning Unit, adopting a collaborative approach to working across different divisions within the Network and with the Senior Management Team. They will need to be able to work autonomously and confidently to manage colleagues and clients. The successful candidate will work as part of the Manchester based Strategic Planning Unit working across all the divisions within the Network.

The ideal candidate will be extremely capable across the board and will be able to move with ease between data, the study of consumer behaviour, and creative idea generation. They will possess a genuine interest in research practices and application of insights to inform communication strategy. With an appetite for learning and driving change this person will be a trusted partner for clients and a strong leader within our business. The Strategy Director will work closely with the Business Directors and their teams to take ownership of key clients within the group. They will be motivated by building senior client relationships that enable them to push media up the business agenda. The successful candidate will need to possess the following;

The ability to drive new thinking in planning –
As the sheer volume of information, channels and technologies increase, so too does the scope of the media planning task. We are looking for someone who is intuitively digital, commercial and consumer centric and importantly, mobilised rather than paralysed by the new. The person will guide our clients through the complexities of the media world and help them make bolder, smarter decisions in the process.

The ability to solve problems creatively
The candidate will come at familiar challenges from different perspectives. They will seek out new opinion, use different tools and try out new approaches to generate brilliant insight. They will not settle for doing the same, just a little better, but instinctively look to make an unexpected leap to a braver solution.

The ability to help clients achieve their ambitions and to make money
Clients buy solutions that drive their business forward. We need someone who is keen to understand all elements of a client’s organisation and how they make money. They will be seen by our clients as a trusted advisor, help to re-frame media as an investment not a cost and develop opportunities that drive real profitability.

The ability to lead and facilitate collaboration
Our business thrives on collaboration. The sheer number of disciplines that must work together on a brief means an ability to collaborate is critical. The ability to engage all types of people from planners, to technical specialists to commercial operators is a powerful asset in our diverse ecosystem. Understanding perspectives, agendas and MOs is key to truly exerting influence and shaping outcomes.

Strong commercial acumen
We need people who are commercially minded – who spot opportunities, develop strategies and can sell their ideas. This is not about selling off a list of products. You should understand the needs of the client’s business and produce and package opportunities accordingly.

Powerful communication skills
Story telling is an essential part of what we do both internally and externally. Therefore written and verbal communication skills will be highly developed within this individual making them a powerful and persuasive communicator
