Are you looking to join an exciting new team responsible for building & operating the content APIs that power the BBC Online?

Do you fancy the challenge of working with our large data sets to produce high scale APIs that make the BBCs websites and apps faster and richer?

Platform API is BBC Future Media’s new Salford based API team, with the mission to make life easier for application and website developers who work with the BBC’s content, and to accelerate innovation in our online products. Our APIs power all the BBCs product areas – iPlayer, News, Sport, Weather, Children’s, Knowledge & Learning – as well as many external & partner products such as and Youview.

Role Responsibility

To design and develop high-volume, high-performance, high-availability, service-oriented applications using proven frameworks and technologies.
To build scalable RESTful web-services
To design and implement robust database systems
To design and develop APIs for use across the BBC.
To deploy, install and configure software systems
To build robust monitoring and alerting systems
To contribute to best practice for application development at the BBC.
To write unit and integration tests, within automated test environments to ensure code quality
To write concise yet comprehensive technical documentation
To design and deploy services to the development and live environments

The Ideal Candidate

Willingness to learn and work with new technologies
Experience of implementing and/or supporting REST based web services especially HTTP APIs
Experience of database design and optimisation including RDF, SPARQL, SQL and/or NoSQL technologies
Proven ability in programming or scripting for application development or system administration
Experience of software installation and deployment in Linux environments
Experience of systems management, monitoring and performance tuning
Demonstrable experience writing unit and integration tests
Ability to write concise technical documentation
Experience of agile methods such as SCRUM
