This role offers an exciting opportunity to anyone interested in the general management of arts organisations. As part of a small, hard-working team, there is huge opportunity for the post holder to take mjf to the next level in its exciting development, sustaining and progressing a world-class music organisation working within the ever-changing social and economic context of the arts in the UK today.

This is a new role within the organisation, resulting from a re-structure and the successful award of a recent Catalyst:Evolve grant. The successful applicant will lead us through the next stage of our evolution and work alongside our Artistic Director and the team to enable our artistic leadership to flourish.

The role of Director of Development and Operations is a key, senior position within the organisation reporting directly to the Board of Directors and working alongside the Artistic Director/CEO.

It combines responsibilities for fundraising, operational management and line management of staff.

It offers huge scope and opportunity for someone seeking to develop experience of general management within the arts. It is a post with an exciting music organisation working with local, national and international world-class musicians presenting an annual festival with a risk-taking programme and fulfilling a distinctive role in the UK arts scene.

Working from our Manchester city centre office, the post-holder will lead on development initiatives, building on current successes, work with the AD and organise the management team to help deliver and refresh the organisation’s Business Plan and then oversee its delivery through the Operational Plan (which lays out the order and timetable for how the organisation will realise its Business Plan for each quarter). This will involve ensuring that the projects and plans that form it are kept on track in delivery time and budget, and taking mitigating action if they are not. The post-holder will therefore be expected to actively participate in strategic planning and discussions with the AD along with the other managers.

The post-holder will be required to create, update and monitor the annual budget.

The post-holder will be expected to lead on the delivery of occasional key strategic and organisational projects.

The post holder will be responsible for the operations assistant, to whom the delivery of various operational duties will be delegated.
