ESOF 2016 (Ref: DCA3769)

This is Manchester, European City of Science – where looking beyond the boundaries of possibility is in our DNA.

Are you a digital communications expert with track record in delivering effective and exciting web copy? Do you have a solid understanding of social media and experience in amplifying digital content to inspire and engage? Are you dynamic, hands on and inquisitive – keen to learn in a fast paced environment and with a good eye for detail?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive communications professional to take on a central role in the delivery of the digital media strategy for the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) – Europe’s largest and most prestigious general science conference, which takes place in Manchester in July 2016. With it comes the designation of European City of Science through to the end of 2016 –a first for the UK.

The Digital Communications Assistant will support the Head of Communications & Marketing across all digital communications outputs from the production of web content, to social media management, e-newsletters, media releases and proofreading.

The role:
• Supporting the development of the ESOF 2016 website and build of a brand new site for the Science and the City festival/Manchester European City of Science.
• Writing engaging content and news copy across digital platforms, keeping to the brand guidelines and voice.
• Creating and developing a ‘digital content calendar’ for the duration of the European City of Science designation.
• Planning and implementing high-quality, dynamic social media and email campaigns.
• Tracking and analysing success.

Experience and skills required:
• Previous experience in a communications, PR or marketing role with a strong digital aspect – experience in higher education, conference delivery, or a science/tech related sector would be an advantage.
• First class written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent copywriting and copy editing skills.
• A track record of web build, testing, analytics and using social media monitoring tools.
• An understanding of digital marketing techniques e.g. SEO, PPC and display (banner) advertising.
• Experience of working with the press and writing media friendly copy would be beneficial to the role.

Candidates without this experience but with a track record of writing engaging and well-written copy for digital channels will also be considered. Experience of using a web content management system would be a distinct advantage.

This is an excellent opportunity for a creative individual to make their mark, as part of a project with a global profile.
