Each Friday in The Wrap, one of the North’s leading media and creative figures will be giving us their take on the news covered by Prolific North over the last seven days.

This week it’s the turn of Oliver Yeates, founder and chief executive of Chester-based Clicky Media.

I have to admit I love this time of year, I know it’s getting chilly outside but things just seem to happen in the autumn: new projects, exciting new pitches, new recruits, it all just seems to fall into place and sets us all up for a big lead up to Christmas.

olioct16After being an avid reader of these weekly wrap-ups from the Prolific North for the past few months I was delighted to be asked to contribute myself.

It is great to hear that UKFast is doubling the size of its Manchester HQ. As a client of theirs, we understand first hand the exceptional service that they offer their customers. I am also extremely drawn to the employee focus that their offices have, complete with a gym, bar, zen garden and auditorium, which is also a fantastic benefit for clients to use.

Investing in our people, not only from a financial perspective but also in their health and wellbeing, is part and parcel of ensuring we deliver the highest level of service for our clients. They may only be small gestures, but they are vital for attracting and retaining the very best staff and ensuring that we are ahead of the game. Our company is growing at an extensive rate and we need to make sure that we are ready for anything.

Like many Northern tech companies, ourselves included, it is a really exciting time and we are extremely excited to be hosting our OMG: Girls in Tech! event at the UKFast campus in Manchester on 28th October.

A Week in My Life: Simon Wadsworth, Managing Partner of Igniyte

Manchester is now a media ‘hot spot’ and with the dramatic growth of the tech industries in the North West as well, developments such as the Space Project – which has won planning permission for a £14m expansion – can only be beneficial. Although it doesn’t quite counteract the possible 300 job losses with the BBC Studios restructuring, the Space Project media production unit is fantastic news for the local economy, creating 275 more jobs and boosting it by around £1million a year.

The Great Northern Powerhouse lives on… Manchester has been selected as one of only six cities around the world to pilot the VR Imax Experience where the audience will go into pods big enough to walk around in.

We thrive off experiences like this in the Clicky office. Getting out and about and experiencing the very latest technology for yourself is vital to keeping the company and our clients at the forefront. With other countries involved being in Japan, China, the Middle East and the US, having such an amazing experience on our doorstep is exciting and one that we won’t be missing out on!
