Citizen Khan gets fifth series

BBC One has commissioned a fifth series of family-based sitcom, Citizen Khan.

Shot in front of a live studio audience at MediaCityUK as well as on location in Birmingham, it’s produced by BBC In-house Comedy.

“I’m so grateful to the British television public who really have taken The Khan’s to their hearts. You don’t get to a fifth series without their love and support and of course the brilliant cast, co-writers and production team. My mum’s so pleased she’s bringing out the Royal Albert dinner set this weekend,” said series creator Adil Ray.

It was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, and Shane Allen, controller of comedy commissioning. Rebecca Papworth is the executive producer. The series has been written by Anil Gupta, Richard Pinto (The Kumars at No 42, Goodness Gracious Me, The Impressions Show) with Adil Ray.

“It’s a testament to Adil’s wonderful creation and the writing team that there’s lots more comedy chaos and adventures ahead. It’s grown to become a firm BBC One audience favourite in a mainstream family-friendly slot,” added Shane Allen.
