A video featuring Iggy Pop, Steve Coogan, Shaun Ryder, Christopher Eccleston and more has been released to mark the anniversary of Tony Wilson’s death.
It will accompany the single release of St Anthony: An Ode To Anthony Wilson later in the week.
The poem was written by Mancunian poet and lifelong Wilson fan, Mike Garry, who approached composer Joe Duddell (New Order, Elbow), to create a music track.
“When Anthony H. Wilson died in August 2007, I knew the world would never be the same. Tony Wilson built the modern Manchester,” said Garry.
The CD will be released on Skinny Dog Records this week, featuring artwork by Saville and a remix by Andrew Weatherall. Profits will go to The Christie Hospital.
The video to accompany the single has been made by Soup Collective and was filmed at The Sharp Project. It includes Steve Coogan, Iggy Pop, Shaun Ryder, Christopher Eccleston, Andrew Weatherall, John Cooper Clarke, Peter Saville, Philip Glass, Bernard Sumner, Gillian Gilbert, Stephen Morris, Richard Madeley, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Mike Garry, Paul Morley, Mark Radcliffe, Miranda Sawyer, John Robb, Joe Duddell, Rowetta, Elliot Rashman, Mike Pickering, Johnny Jay, Leroy Richardson, Terry Christian, Johnny Bramwell, Larry Gott and Vini Reilly. All will be reading lines from the poem.
The launch takes places at Granada Studios, with Mike Pickering DJing, plus live music and a video – Stories about Wilson.
