ITV has commissioned a new 3-part special of Scott & Bailey from Red Production Company.

The three programmes will follow a single crime story, which will be one of the “biggest and darkest cases” the pair have had to face.

“We’re delighted to be returning to Scott & Bailey with an investigation that will have everlasting consequences for the characters,” said Red’s Nicola Shindler.

“This series is more ambitious and sinister than ever before and the concept of a three part story allows us the opportunity to tackle a story of epic scale and ambition.”

Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp will return in the title roles. Jones will also take on an executive producer role, having come up with the idea for the drama alongside fellow actor, Sally Lindsay.

It will be produced by head of production, Michaela Eccleston and written by Lee Warburton and Paul Logan. A director has yet to be appointed.

Filming will take place around Greater Manchester from September.

“Scott & Bailey is a firm favourite with ITV viewers who relate to the characters’ busy professional and working lives,” said ITV director of drama commissioning Steve November.

“We’re thrilled Red are reuniting Suranne and Lesley to play the iconic characters so deftly created by Sally Wainwright and Red’s production team.”
