Former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles has agreed a “big money deal” to host the XFM breakfast show.
The self-styled “saviour of Radio 1” left the BBC in 2012 after eight years, with listening figures for his breakfast show peaking at 7.06 million.
The Leeds-born DJ will now be going head to head with his successor at Radio 1, Nick Grimshaw.
He’s reported to be taking two months to develop ideas for the show’s new format.
XFM’s current breakfast show is fronted by comedian Jon Holmes.
Since leaving Radio 1, Moyles has worked on the stage, playing the part of King Herod in an arena tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
He also toured a solo stage show, “Chris Moyles Live”, and hosted a much-derided series of vlogs on YouTube called A Week in the Life of Chris Moyles.
