citizenkhanBBC One has released the first trailer for the upcoming third season of Citizen Khan, which is set to premiere on Friday in its new pre-watershed slot.

The Salford-shot series switches from 9.30pm to 8.30pm for its third series, a move its creator said showed the corporation is taking the need to increase ethnic diversity onscreen seriously.

Created by Adil Ray, Citizen Khan is set in the capital of British Pakistan – Sparkhill, Birmingham – and follows the trials and tribulations of self-appointed Muslim community leader Mr Khan and his long suffering family. The comedy series is produced by BBC In-house Comedy and stars Adil Ray as Mr Khan, Shobu Kapoor as Mrs Khan, Maya Sondhi as Shazia Khan and Bhavna Limbachia as Alia Khan.

The MediaCityUK studio-based programme was ordered by Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, and Shane Allen, controller of BBC Comedy Commissioning back in December.
