Yorkshire Post journalist Rob Waugh has made the shortlist for the prestigious Paul Foot Award.

The award, set up by Private Eye and the Guardian in memory of the renowned journalist, seeks to reward investigative or campaigning work.

Waugh, who is the only regional journalist on the list, has been nominated for his work involving former West Yorkshire Police chief constable Sir Norman Bettison.

He was also nominated in 2009 for his exposure of cavalier spending at Leeds Metropolitan University.

The £5,000 top prize will be presented on February 26, with £1,000 going to each of the runners-up.
