Sheffield is targeting start-ups, particularly in the digital sector, to take part in a new fast track funding scheme.

The dotforge accelerator is backed by Creative England and a number of private investors in Yorkshire.

Companies accepted onto the programme will get up to £25k in cash per founder and they can also access more than £150k in follow-on funding (from Finance Yorkshire and Sheffield City Region LEP). Additional benefits include free office accommodation, mentoring and access to investors and specialist help.

“Startups are usually drawn to capital cities, but Sheffield UK is poised to be one of the world’s top startup destinations, especially for cloud-powered businesses. dotforge is just one part of the organic startup ecosystem that’s taking shape up there. It’s more like the city as an accelerator, they’re building Europe’s startup engine room. Definitely worth a second look,” explained Jon Bradford, who since launching Europe’s first accelerator has helped to start 12 multi-company accelerators.

The ultimate aim is to invite applications from around the world to bring ideas and creative talent to the city. There will be an emphasis on companies developing B2B products and services and those that generate or use big data.

More information can be found on the dotforge accelerator website, with applications closing at 12pm on Monday 25th February.
